Hi there - I'm Deanna!

Welcome!

If you're on this page, that means you're either curious about me or about my seemingly-obscure blog name!

Out of Moab is a reference to the Biblical book of Ruth. This book is often framed as a love story between Ruth and Boaz - but I see it differently.

Naomi was in a place of complete despair after losing her sons and husband while living in a foreign land.

Convinced that God had abandoned her, she renamed herself Mara (meaning "bitter"). I've always identified with Naomi - not for her specific situation but because of the affliction and despair she felt because of her circumstances.

But then God showed up - by providing Ruth as a steadfast companion to Naomi, bringing them safely back to Israel and ultimately providing for both of them through Boaz. And as God showed His faithfulness over and over again, Naomi was brought to a place of healing and restoration.

I've been on a journey of healing in my life - spiritually, emotionally and physically - God has used many things in that journey, including some that may seem to be more mundane - like spiritual growth, hiking, baking...and more!

In this blog, through pointing to God’s work in my life, I trust that this will help you highlight what God is doing in your own life. As we focus on His work in us, I believe we become more fully aware of and rooted in His love for us. This awareness and experience of His love will help us to develop confidence to bring ourselves to God in every moment, including our lowest ones - because that is often when He shows up the most! Coming into God's presence and beholding His glory is key to spiritual growth, which is my ultimate goal for this blog.

"And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit."

2 Corinthians 3:18
